The wild pigs; warthogs and bushpigs are reservoirs of ASFV hence probably playing a role in the spread and maintenance the disease especially at the wildlife-livestock interface in Uganda. Both warthogs and bushpigs are infected by the ASFV but they remain asymptomatic. Young warthogs are infected by the soft ticks (Ornithodorus moubata) during the nights while in burrows.
